DIY: Sharpie Mug!

Here is another SUPER simple DIY! My mother HATES the word, “Meh” – there is nothing that drives her crazy more. So, being the loving daughter that I am, decided to make her a meh mug for Christmas.

Initially I was going for something a little more traditional, but when I saw this mug at the local 99cent store, I HAD to buy it! It was perfect – and the perfect price for a gag gift!

  • Mug
  • Oil Based Sharpie
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Stencil (Optional)

Step 1: Wipe It Down!

Give the mug a nice little wipe down with rubbing alcohol and let it dry!

Step 2: Draw!

I told you this was an easy DIY! Make sure you are using an OIL BASED sharpie, otherwise this won’t work. All oil based sharpies have a pink banner on the end that says, “oil based”. Sorry for the condition of my sharpie, I’ve had this one for a bit so it has been lying around my pen drawer.

I didn’t use a stencil, and just drew directly on the mug, but if you want a more uniform feeling, use a stencil to trace around or fill in your design!

Step 3: Bake!

Bake your mug at 375 for 30 minutes and voila! This should be dishwasher safe – but I’d still treat it gently.

What did you think? I’d love to see your designs!
